Help & FAQ

Answers to the questions we hear most often about FieldFinders — the UK marketplace connecting metal detectorists with landowners. If your question is not covered here, email us at admin@fieldfinders.co.uk.

What is FieldFinders?

FieldFinders is the UK online marketplace — think of it as the Airbnb for metal detecting. It connects detectorists with landowners who list fields and farmland for paid detecting permissions, both as individual day bookings and as organised, ticketed club digs.

Is FieldFinders live?

Yes. FieldFinders is live and taking members now. Create a free account to browse fields that landowners have listed across England, Wales and Scotland, and book legal detecting permission online — on the website or the app.

Is it free?

Creating an account and browsing fields is completely free. Detectorists pay per day permission (typically £10 to around £85 a day, set by the landowner), and a platform service fee may apply at checkout. There is no charge simply to sign up and browse.

How do I get started?

Just give us your full name, email address and location to create your free account. We store this securely and send you a welcome email plus occasional updates. You can unsubscribe at any time, and you can ask us to delete your details whenever you like (see our Privacy Policy). Once you're in, you can browse listed fields and book the days that suit you.

How do landowners join?

Landowners register by request, and every registration is manually verified before any listing goes live, with ownership or authority over the land confirmed. To get started, email admin@fieldfinders.co.uk with the land’s location and confirmation that you can grant detecting permissions.

Do I need insurance or NCMD membership?

Detectorists must hold current NCMD or FID membership, which includes £10 million public liability insurance. We check the membership card photo at the point of booking. FieldFinders does not issue or sell insurance itself — your NCMD or FID membership is the cover.

What about finds and the law?

All detecting on FieldFinders must follow UK law. You must report potential treasure under the Treasure Act 1996 (within 14 days), record findspots, work with your local Finds Liaison Officer and the Portable Antiquities Scheme, and never detect on Scheduled Monuments without consent. See our Finds & Responsible Detecting Code of Conduct for the full picture.

What are club digs and how do tickets work?

Club digs are organised group detecting events. They are ticketed through FieldFinders using QR-coded tickets for quick, secure entry on the day, and we provide promotional materials to help organisers fill their events.

How much does a day cost?

Day permissions typically range from £10 to around £85 per day. The exact price is set by each landowner and shown clearly on the listing before you book. Payment is taken when you book through a secure third-party processor.

How is my data handled?

We store your account data (name, email, location) securely in line with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, and use trusted providers such as Supabase and Brevo. We never sell your data, and you can access or delete it at any time. Full details are in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
