About FieldFinders

Last updated 27 May 2026

FieldFinders is, in a phrase, the Airbnb for metal detecting. We are the UK marketplace that connects metal detectorists with landowners who have fields and farmland to share — turning the hardest part of the hobby, finding permission to detect, into something as simple as a few taps.

Our mission

Detecting in Britain sits on top of two thousand years of buried history, but access is the perennial problem. Detectorists spend more time knocking on farmhouse doors than swinging a coil, while landowners often have no easy way to say yes, set fair terms, or earn a little from land that would otherwise go unsearched. FieldFinders exists to fix that — to open up the fields responsibly, reward landowners, and put history back into the hands of the people who care about it most.

How it works for detectorists

  • Browse verified listings of fields and farmland available for detecting.
  • Book a day permission for a date that suits you — typically £10 to around £85 per day.
  • Turn up with your permission already arranged, detect responsibly, and record your finds.

How it works for landowners

  • List your land, set your price and choose the dates you are happy to open up.
  • Get paid for permissions that previously cost you nothing but a knock at the door.
  • Welcome detectorists who agree to follow our Code of Conduct and the law on finds.

Club digs

Beyond individual day permissions, FieldFinders supports organised, ticketed club digs — larger group events with QR-coded tickets for easy, secure entry. We provide promotional materials to help organisers fill their events, so clubs can focus on running a great day in the field.

The Pro toolkit

FieldFinders is more than a marketplace — it's a full research toolkit, now live. Atlasoverlays 1m LiDAR, satellite and historic maps so you can read the land before you dig; Tracecircles earthworks and features the eye misses; Find ID identifies your finds against 1.6 million+ PAS-recorded UK finds; and Curator shows you how to clean and care for what you dig without destroying its value. Alongside them sit Recce, Permissions, Valuation and Treasure-Act guidance — everything a serious detectorist needs in one place.

The tools are free to try for 3 days with no card, then £4.99 a month, cancel any time. Your own records — finds, permissions and land — stay free forever.

Trust and verification

Trust is everything in this hobby. Landowners register by request and are manually verified, with ownership or authority over the land confirmed before any listing goes live. Detectorists must hold current NCMD or FID membership, which includes £10 million public liability insurance — we check the membership card photo at the point of booking — and follow our Finds & Responsible Detecting Code of Conduct, including the Treasure Act 1996 and the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
